SOLAR
POWER SYSTEM
The system consists of a block of batteries with a capacity of 1200Ah.
The batteries are charged by eight 120 Watt solar panel or by a
750 Watt windmill. If there is no wind or sun for a long time, the
batteries can be charged by a generator. The system is computer
controlled and has supplied more than enough power to date. As long
as the batteries are correctly maintained, no further investment
is expected over the next 10 years.
DRINKING WATER
A 150m deep borehole supplies groundwater, which is pumped into
a 10m3 cistern discretely overlooking the house. Analysis of this
water shows it to be of good drinking quality. The vertical drop
then provides the necessary water pressure in the house. Water warmed
by the sun is stored in a 300 litre tank. If this is insufficient
then a gas water heater can be turned on. Waste water is purified
through three cleaning chambers and then discharged into the ground.
CENTRAL HEATING
In the main house there is central heating, which can be powered
with wood or gas. In the guest bungalow there is a wood oven which
can be powered with wood or gas.
Television, telephone and internet are possible with modern, digital
satellite equipment.
